“We're shipping party dresses to kids' birthdays. If the address is wrong, someone's daughter doesn't get her dress in time. That's the one thing we have to get right.”
Lola + The Boys is a US children's fashion brand running on Shopify Plus — using every Order Editing feature: upsells, order editing, and Address Validation.
At their volume, two things happen constantly. Customers mistype addresses at checkout. And customers realize they've ordered the wrong size, or the wrong color, or forgotten something, minutes after paying.
Both end the same way if nobody catches them: a support ticket, a redelivery, or a parcel that never arrives.
Catching it before the order exists: Address Validation
Address Validation uses the postal database to autocomplete the customer's address as they enter it at checkout.
Order Editing has perfectly autofilled 65,700 addresses with carrier-verified information in less than 50ms.
Shopify's autocomplete predicts a place and fills the fields. Order Editing's autocomplete hands the customer a perfected, carrier-validated address to begin with.
It prevented 1,770 failed deliveries and even more downstream issues created from native autocomplete — “where is my order” (WISMO) tickets, carrier correction fees, and delayed delivery.
What that's worth
Order Editing estimates the net saving at $34,743:
-
Redelivery savings Avoided second-ship cost on failed deliveries+$31,860
-
Support & operations savings Fewer WISMO tickets and manual corrections+$3,540
-
Address validation costs $657 spent · a cent per order checked−$657
"The redelivery cost is the bit people forget. You pay to ship it, you pay to ship it again, and you've still got a customer who's annoyed. Guaranteeing a correct address for a cent is not a difficult decision."
— James Karis, Head of Email Marketing, Lola + The Boys
Letting customers fix the rest: Order Editing
A post-purchase upsell email brings customers back into the window while it's still open.
The "double-dash" email upsell that printed $100,000
"There's still space in your package" — that's the Klaviyo-integrated email customers receive within 10 minutes of their order being placed.
They've already paid for the delivery, so the marginal cost of one more product is genuinely lower now than it will be tomorrow. That's how it made Lola + The Boys over $100,000 in twelve months.
Adding to an existing order is an easy ask, as James Karis has found out.
"This has increased the average order value of those particular orders by $49."
Results the team is tracking
Lola + The Boys customers have made 27,304 self-service order edits, generating $124,582.18 in upsell revenue.
"Every single one of those edits used to be an email and the attribution for upsells is real. Those customers would not have added another product into their order after checkout if not for Order Editing."
