Fallback Strategy Migration FAQ

Understand the retired fallback strategy and how to preserve broad upsell coverage.

1 min read

What changed?

Merchant fallback strategies have been removed. They can no longer be created or updated, and Order Editing does not re-evaluate a global fallback strategy when normal strategy matching returns no result.

How does matching work now?

Order Editing evaluates active strategies for the requested placement and market, applies customer targeting, and selects the most specific matching strategy.

How do I replace an old fallback setup?

  1. Open Upsell Strategies.
  2. Create a normal strategy for each placement that needs broad coverage.
  3. Choose All customers in the WHO step.
  4. Add product modules that return available products across the selected markets.
  5. In Upsell Strategy Name, select Draft, then select Publish.
  6. Install the placement and finish the strategy setup.
  7. Set the strategy to Active immediately before a controlled customer test.
  8. Leave it Active only after the test passes.

An unrestricted strategy has low specificity, so a more targeted matching strategy can still win.

What happens when no strategy matches?

The placement may use its own global or system behaviour when supported, or show no offer. Check placement installation, market selection, product availability, and targeting before assuming matching failed.
