What it means

The customer gets a simple edit. Your operation gets a settled order.

Self-service order editing is not just an edit button. It is a controlled period after checkout where customers can fix routine mistakes without asking support, while the merchant decides what is editable and when fulfillment can begin.

Customers fix the routine changes

Addresses, quantities, sizes, colours, products, shipping methods, contact details, cancellations, and forgotten discount codes can be made available within the rules you choose.

Merchants keep control

Set the edit window, restrict products and order types, and close editing when an order reaches the point where a safe change is no longer possible.

The order math is rechecked

Added or removed items can change payment, refunds, taxes, discounts, duties, shipping rates, and free-shipping eligibility. The edit flow recalculates the parts affected by the change and your configuration.

The final version reaches your stack

Order holds and integrations help prevent a warehouse, ERP, or shipping tool from acting on a version the customer is still allowed to change.

The connected edit window

An edit is only finished when the whole stack agrees

The storefront experience should feel immediate. Behind it, each edit follows a deliberate sequence so the customer, Shopify, and fulfillment operation are working from the same order.

  1. 01

    Open a controlled window

Eligible customers see the editing experience on the post-purchase surfaces you choose, for exactly as long as your rules allow.

  2. 02

    Validate the requested change

Product restrictions, available inventory, fulfillment status, and edit permissions are checked before the change is accepted.

  3. 03

    Settle prices and payments

The updated order is recalculated, with payment or refund handling based on what the customer added, removed, or changed.

  4. 04

    Update the connected record

Shopify and configured services receive the edit context they need, including tax, duty, shipping, promotion, inventory, and support data where applicable.

  5. 05

    Release the final order

When the editing window closes, the settled version can continue to picking, packing, shipping, and customer communication.

My favourite part about Order Editing is the time it gives me and my team to invest into community building. Those customers are now not waiting for a response and they're getting the best experience you could possibly have.
