Free Shipping Tiers

Set global free shipping thresholds by country and currency, used by all upsell strategies.

Free Shipping Tiers

Free Shipping Tiers let you define the minimum cart value a customer needs to reach to qualify for free shipping, organised by country. Set your thresholds here once, and they'll be used by your checkout free shipping upsell. This gives you a single place to manage all your free shipping thresholds globally, rather than configuring them individually per strategy.

You'll find this at Settings > Free Shipping Tiers.

Setting Up Free Shipping Thresholds

Each threshold defines the minimum cart value a customer must reach before free shipping kicks in. You can create multiple thresholds to cover different countries and currencies.

Each threshold on the global Settings page has three components:

Field

Description

Name

A label for this threshold (e.g. "Free Shipping", "Express Upgrade"). This is for your reference only and isn't shown to customers.

Currency and amount

The minimum cart value in your chosen currency (e.g. CAD 75, USD 50, EUR 45). When a customer's cart reaches this value, they qualify for free shipping.

Countries

The countries this threshold applies to. At least one country must be selected for each threshold.

ℹ️ Note: When you add custom thresholds inside an individual strategy (rather than here in Settings), the Name field is not available. Custom strategy-level thresholds only include the currency amount and countries.

To add a threshold:

  1. Click + Add threshold
  2. Enter a name for the tier
  3. Set the currency and minimum cart value
  4. Click Add countries and select the countries where this threshold applies
  5. Click Save

💡 Tip: You can also click Import from delivery profiles to pull in thresholds directly from your existing Shopify delivery profiles. This saves time if you've already configured free shipping rules in Shopify.

Example Setup

A merchant selling internationally might configure their tiers like this:

Threshold Name

Amount

Countries

Free Shipping - US

USD 50

United States

Free Shipping - Canada

CAD 75

Canada

Free Shipping - Europe

EUR 45

France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands

With this setup, a customer in Canada would see a free shipping progress bar encouraging them to reach CAD 75, while a customer in the US would see a USD 50 target. The checkout free shipping upsell uses these values to show how close the customer is to qualifying.

How Strategies Use These Tiers

Each upsell strategy has a "Free Shipping Thresholds" section with two options:

Option

Behaviour

Use global free shipping tiers

Reads the thresholds from this page. Any changes you make here automatically apply to the strategy.

Set custom thresholds for this strategy

Overrides with strategy-specific values. Changes to global defaults won't affect this strategy.

For most merchants, Use global free shipping tiers is the best starting point. Configure your tiers here once and every strategy picks them up automatically. You only need custom thresholds if you want a specific strategy to use different values, for example running a promotional free shipping offer with a lower threshold.

ℹ️ Note: If you set up multiple thresholds in the same currency and country, each customer will see progress toward the single tier they haven't yet reached. The ability to show progress toward a higher tier (for example, encouraging a customer who already qualifies for free standard shipping to spend more for free express) is not yet available.

FAQ

What happens if a customer's country isn't covered?

If a customer's country is not included in any threshold, the free shipping progress bar won't be shown to them. Make sure to add all countries where you offer free shipping.

Can I have different thresholds per currency?

Yes. Add a separate threshold for each currency and assign the relevant countries to it. For example, you might set $50 USD for the United States and 45 EUR for European countries.

What does "Import from delivery profiles" do?

It pulls your existing free shipping thresholds from your Shopify delivery profiles into Order Editing. This is the fastest way to get started if you've already set up free shipping rules in Shopify.

Can I delete a threshold?

Yes. Click the delete icon next to the threshold you want to remove. Any upsell strategies using global defaults will no longer show a free shipping progress bar for customers in the countries that were assigned to that threshold.
