Install OrderEditing Extension on Thank You & Order Status Pages

Add the Order Editing extension to your Thank You and Order Status pages in the Shopify checkout editor.

What You're Setting Up

Order Editing appears to your customers on two pages after checkout: the Thank You Page (shown immediately after a purchase) and the Order Status Page (where customers return to track their order).

You add the Order Editing extension to both pages in Shopify's checkout editor.

Note: Order Editing starts in Draft Mode. Until you switch to Live Mode, only staff can see the Order Editing extension. Your customers won't see anything until you go live.

Add the Extension to the Thank You Page

  1. In the Order Editing setup flow, click Connect next to Thank You Page. This opens the Shopify checkout editor in a new tab.
  2. In the checkout editor, find the section where you want the Order Editing extension to appear. Most stores place it near the top of the page, below the order confirmation message.
  3. Click Add and select Order Editing from the list of available app extensions.
  4. Click Save in the top right.
  5. Return to the Order Editing setup flow. The Thank You Page status should now show as Connected.

Add the Extension to the Order Status Page

  1. In the Order Editing setup flow, click Connect next to Order Status Page.
  2. Follow the same steps as above to add the Order Editing extension to the Order Status Page.
  3. Click Save and return to the Order Editing setup flow.

Tip: Connect both pages. The Thank You Page catches customers immediately after checkout. The Order Status Page catches customers who return from their order confirmation email. Together, they cover the full editing window.

Draft Mode: Control Who Sees Order Editing

Draft Mode means the Order Editing extension is installed in your checkout, but only visible to staff. Your customers see a standard checkout experience until you switch to Live Mode.

While in Draft Mode, you can test the full editing experience yourself before anyone else sees it.

Add your staff email domain

To see Order Editing as a customer would, add your staff email domain in the Draft Mode settings.

  1. In the Order Editing setup flow, scroll to Customer visibility.
  2. Under Staff email domains, enter your company's email domain (for example, yourstore.com).
  3. Click Add.

Any order placed using an email address from that domain will show the Order Editing extension. Orders placed with other email addresses won't see it yet.

Troubleshooting

The "Connect" button isn't opening the checkout editor

Make sure you're using a browser that allows pop-ups from Shopify. The checkout editor opens in a new tab. If nothing happens when you click Connect, check whether your browser blocked the tab from opening.

I can't find the Order Editing extension in the checkout editor

The Order Editing extension appears in the app extension list inside the checkout editor. If you don't see it, make sure the app is fully installed. Try refreshing the checkout editor. If it still doesn't appear, contact Order Editing support with your store URL.

The Thank You Page shows as "Not connected" after I saved

Return to the checkout editor and confirm the extension was added and saved correctly. It's easy to close the editor without saving. After confirming the extension is saved, return to the Order Editing setup flow and refresh the page.

I don't see the Order Editing extension when I place a test order

Check that your email address matches the domain you added to the Draft Mode staff list. If you used a personal email for the test order, Order Editing won't show. Place the test order using your work email address.
