Set Up Global-E and Managed Markets

Configure safe order editing for Global-E and Managed Markets orders with duties and taxes collected at checkout.

3 min read

What you'll configure

Global-E and Managed Markets orders can have duties, taxes, and payment expectations owned by the international-commerce provider. Order Editing limits financially impactful changes on affected orders while preserving supported non-financial actions.

Enable Global-E

  1. Open Apps > Order Editing > Integrations.
  2. Open Global-E.
  3. Enable the Global-E integration and save.

Order Editing automatically detects authoritative Global-E orders from their GEOrderId order attribute. You do not need to create a country list for direct Global-E detection.

Enable Managed Markets

  1. Open Apps > Order Editing > Integrations.
  2. Open Managed Markets.
  3. Enable the Managed Markets integration.
  4. Select the countries where your store collects duties and taxes at checkout through Managed Markets.
  5. Save the integration.

Choose only countries using this international payment and duties flow. The country selection determines which orders receive the protected editing experience.

Understand the safe edit boundary

On an affected order, Order Editing restricts changes that can alter the amount, duties, taxes, or payment expected by Global-E or Managed Markets. Product, quantity, discount, shipping, and other financially impactful changes may therefore be unavailable.

Supported non-financial actions can remain available, including contact information, notes, delivery instructions, support, invoices, personalisation, and gift notes, subject to the store's normal editing rules and enabled blocks.

Cancellation remains available when the store's cancellation settings and the order state allow it. A partial Global-E order does not need a calculated-order editing session for cancellation.

For a restricted financial change, process the change through the provider's supported workflow or contact its support. Do not work around the restriction in Order Editing, because doing so can create payment, duty, or tax discrepancies.

Add customer messaging

  1. Open App Settings > Global settings > Editing Rules and Automations.
  2. Choose the template Show a custom message for orders paid with Global-E?.
  3. Review the preconfigured Global-E detection and customer message.
  4. Adjust the message to explain which editing options are unavailable and where the customer can get help.
  5. Save and test the rule.

Test an affected order

  1. Open an existing controlled Global-E or Managed Markets order.
  2. Confirm financially impactful editing features are unavailable.
  3. Confirm the intended contact, notes, delivery instructions, support, invoice, personalisation, gift-note, and cancellation actions remain available where configured.
  4. Check the customer message.
  5. Repeat with a normal domestic order and confirm it keeps the store's standard editing experience.

If detection is unexpected, record the Shopify order, its market and destination, and whether GEOrderId is present before contacting Order Editing Support.
