Phone number checks
When customers save an address edit, supplied phone numbers must be complete and valid. A country calling code alone, such as +47, is not a complete number. Customers can correct the number or clear the field unless an error rule requires a phone number.
The Missing or Invalid Phone Number trigger applies to Address Editing after purchase. It is not available for checkout rules or Address Verifier conditions. National-format numbers use the shipping country; international numbers can include their country calling code.
Choose the rule behavior
Setting | Customer experience |
|---|---|
Warning | A missing phone displays your warning but does not prevent saving. An invalid nonblank number still needs correction or removal. |
Error (Blocks address edits) | A matching address edit cannot be saved until the customer supplies a valid phone. |
Combine Missing or Invalid Phone Number with Shipping Country and require all conditions to match if you only need phone numbers for selected countries. Supplied invalid numbers still require correction in every country.
Check your configuration
Use the rule preview to check your message. Post-purchase messages appear as a banner above the address fields, not beside a single field. The preview shows appearance; it does not verify a saved order.
To check the customer journey, open an existing eligible order for editing. A blank phone should follow your chosen warning or error behavior. A complete valid number should let the phone check pass, while other address requirements still apply.
