Setting Up Order Status Page Upsells

Install and configure both upsell placements on the Order Status Page.

Overview

The Order Status Page shows customers their order status and tracking information. Order Editing can add upsells here so customers see relevant products when they return to check an order.

This page supports two placements: the Product Carousel and the Featured Product Upsell. The Order Status Page has the broadest filter support because the order has already been created and more customer and order data is available.

💡 Tip: Use the Product Carousel for broad recommendations and the Featured Product Upsell for a focused campaign or hero product.


  1. Open the Order Editing app.
  2. Go to App Blocks .
  3. Select Product Carousel .
  4. Enable the Order Status Page .
  5. Select the default collection you want to show.
  6. Reorder the carousel inside the Order Editing app block if needed.
  7. Click Save . The Product Carousel can show a default collection or products from a matching Upsell Strategy.

Create the strategy

  1. In Order Editing, go to Upsell Strategies .
  2. Click Create Strategy .
  3. Choose the Order Status Page Featured Product Upsell placement.
  4. Add a clear internal name.
  5. Set the strategy to Draft if you're not ready to show it yet.

Add the app block

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout .
  2. Click Customize .
  3. Use the page menu to switch to the Order status page.
  4. Click Add app block .
  5. Select Order Editing , then choose the Featured Product Upsell block.
  6. Position the block and click Save .

Customer targeting

The Order Status Page supports broad targeting because full order and customer details are available. Use this placement for more specific post-purchase segmentation.

Customer filters

Customer Money Spent, Customer Orders Count, Customer Spending Tier, Customer B2B, Shopify Segments.

Show different offers to new, returning, high-value, business, or Shopify segment customers.

Order filters

Order Total, Order Tags, Discount Codes in Order, Discount Codes not in Order, Line Item Count.

Target by order value, order tags, discount-code use, or number of line items.

Product filters

Products in Cart, Products not in Cart, Products in Collection, Products not in Collection, Products in Type, Products not in Type, Product Title Contains, SKU Contains, Product Tags.

Match or exclude offers based on what the customer bought, product categories, product type, title text, SKU text, or product tags.

Market targeting is configured separately from the filter picker. Use market targeting when products should only appear for specific Shopify Markets, countries, currencies, product availability, or regional pricing rules.

ℹ️ Unavailable on Order Status Page upsells: Cart Attribute and Order Contains Subscription Items are not available for the Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell on the Order Status Page.

Variant or bundle-style choices where the customer can select multiple items.

Nosto Recommendations

Nosto-powered recommendations. The Nosto integration must be connected.

Searchspring Recommendations

Searchspring-powered recommendations. The Searchspring integration must be connected.

Swish Wishlist

Wishlist products from Swish. This appears only when the Swish integration is enabled.

Single Product Upsell/Downsell and Subscription Upsell are not available for Order Status Page upsell placements.


Appearance and placement

The Product Carousel appears inside the main Order Editing app block. Use App Blocks to move it above or below other Order Editing blocks.

The Featured Product Upsell appears as its own app block in the checkout editor. Place it where it supports the order status experience without hiding tracking or order information.

Review product image, offer copy, button text, discount display, and block position before going live.


Verify your setup

  1. Place a test order.
  2. Open the Order Status Page.
  3. Confirm the Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell appears.
  4. Check that the expected products show.
  5. Add a product from the upsell to confirm the add-to-order flow works.
  6. Test matching and non-matching orders if filters are used.

Track performance

Monitor views, uptake, revenue, AOV Lift, and top recommended products from the Upsell Strategies page. The Order Status Page often receives repeat views, so give performance enough time to settle.


Troubleshooting

Check that the Order Status Page is enabled in Product Carousel settings, a default collection is selected, and the collection contains active products.

Confirm the app block is installed on the Order status page in the checkout editor, then check that the strategy is Active and the filters match the test order.

The wrong product is showing

Check which strategy is matching the order. If multiple strategies target the same placement, strategy matching decides which offer appears.
